It depends on if you collect a series, or just collect an accumulation of coins. If you want to collect say, full step Jefferson nickels it is nice to deal with the local dealer so you can see before you buy and he can keep an eye out for the coins you need. MS-64 Morgan dollars are far from rare, since most never circulated much anyway, especially east of the Mississippi river. You can find dealers on line, that are very honest with a no questions asked return policy as long as item not removed from holder. One thing about the grading services is the can make mistakes, learn to grade yourself and not all MS-64 silver dollars have the same eye appeal. I like to see what I am getting. I can call my local coin dealer, ask him the next time he goes to a show pick me up a certain coin, in this price range and he usually does. I do on line auctions, but am careful who I deal with. It will take you some time to get into the grove so to speak, but we all learn from mistakes and even I pull one once in a while. I may have got you more confused, but to clear up questions, you can Email me here and I will give you my home Email address. Always willing to help a fellow collector.

I personally will hit up the locals for finding things on a general basis but sometimes online you can find good deals. I like the locals for finding the odd finds, and the online shops for getting the big batches of something. But, to each his/her own.
