Should i get my 1878-CC Morgan Dollar graded?
Louis M asked:
Hi, I have an 1878 Carson City Dollar and im considering getting it graded. It is circulated and has alot of dirt, But it still has full detail on the head. If I do get it graded which grading service should i choose. Thanks

It sounds like what is called a problem coin due to the dirt. If that is the case then the big two PCGS & NGC will not grade it but send it back in what is called a body bag but still charge you. Your best bet on this is ANACS. Just go to their site for a submission slip. A very good 1878-CC has a value of around $75, that is about what a dealer would pay. I am not so sure it is worth the extra money to get it graded. I of course can’t see it, so I can only go by what you wrote. Your dirt could be just honest wear. One thing at least an early CC dollar had Nevada silver in it, the later ones had Colorado silver in it.
