I have a coin that looks like a morgan dollar, but has no date. What is it?

morgan silver dollars
Brock L asked:

The front of the coin looks like a morgan dollar, but it has no date. The back says One Troy Ounce, 31.1 Grams, .999 Fine Silver, Silver Trade Unit. The back also has a set of scales on it. Any clues on what this could be?

I would think it is a Special Minted Dollar and could be quite valuable!! Take it to a trusted coin dealer and find out!!!

It is not a coin. It is a privately minted one ounce silver medal.
You will notice that it does not say “One Dollar” on it anywhere, either.
A real Morgan silver dollar has .77 ounces of 90% silver.
With silver at $14.50 an ounce today, what you have is not bad.
That is about what a real common date Morgan dollar in circulated condition would be worth.

You have what is called a silver round. It is one troy ounce of silver. These are made by private mints like Silvertown. Silver rounds are available with all kinds of designs, some like coins others like medals. They have a lot of different types at Christmas with Christmas themes. They usually sell for a few dollars more than the silver in them and dealers buy them for silver value plus a small fee. It is an interesting way to put away a few ounces of silver and hope it goes way up in price. If not, silver will go up a little at a time.
