Definitely post a photo. There are lots of free places to post, including Yahoo!’s Flickr, Photobucket, and more. Once you’ve done so, you can edit or repost your question and we can all take another try at identifying it.

Does this “silver dollar” include any legend mentioning “.999 fine”, “one troy ounce”, or the like? If so, it’s a privately minted “silver round,” not a coin, and in most cases just worth its value in silver metal. (However, most silver rounds haven’t seen circulation, which is implied in your description of this item’s condition.)

Here’s an “allexperts.com” post where one of the experts there was asked to identify an item like yours, and, without seeing it, suggested that it may well have been a silver round:

i don’t know how much it is worth but if you clean it people will see the rub marks on it and you wont get as much!!!
