Is it a graded and certified coin? If so, it would be in a protective casing with a number sealed into it. Otherwise, if it is just a loose coin, it has no “certificate.”
Go with stever2002. Coins that have been sent to a reputable grading service have a the serial number of the coin on the slab. Actually that number says what coin is in that slab. There are slabs out there that one can buy and make up their own, so make sure you do business with a company that has a good reputation. All grading services are not the same. There should never be a certificate number on the coin itself for it would damage the coin.
