Does anyone know the value of my Morgan Silver dollar?
lucky13 asked:
I have a 1885 Morgan Silver Dollar. The case says S1$ MS63. Can anyone explain what the S stands for? I seen other ones there that had an O instead of an S. What is the value of my coin. Thanks for your help!

1885 is not a rare date for Morgan Dollars, unless it has a “CC” mintmark on the back below the eagle.
In circulated condition, it’s worth about $12 — a nice uncirculated one is worth about $35
If it has the “CC” mintmerk, it’s worth at least $400
Mintmark: “S” (for San Francisco) beneath the bow on the reverse
It all depends on how many of that coin were made, the condition of the coin, the value of silver. I do know that it is considerly more than $1. Go to a library and find a book on coin collecting for U.S. coins. That can give you a good idea as to its worth.
take a look and see what they are bringing on Ebay to get an idea…
The “O” stands for New Orleans, where the coins were minted. In case you’re wondering what “CC” stands for, it’s Carson City, Nevada.
